Pocos profesores de piano hoy restringen el repertorio de sus alumnos a lo estrictamente "clásico" abriéndose a otros estilos. Todo esto se refleja claramente en la selección de los programas para los exámenes. Estos veinte estudios de piano, dirigidos a alumnos de nivel intermedio, incluyen piezas con un cierto "toque" (o sentimiento) latino, que suenan a jazz o que están dentro del pop, no sólo ejercicios orientados al estilo más "clásico". Para ayudar a la elección de un determinado estudio, se incluye una tabla (página 6) con el título del estudio, el modo, el estilo y el ritmo.
